Women, men and teens across Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont rely on PPNNE as an affordable reproductive and sexual health care provider, educator, and steadfast advocate. In 2011, patients came to our 20 health centers across the region for annual gynecological exams, cancer screening (cervical, breast, uterine, colorectal and ovarian), birth control education and contraceptives (including emergency contraception), sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing and treatment, confidential HIV testing and counseling, colposcopy and cryotherapy (follow-up procedures for abnormal Pap tests), abortion care, and routine immunizations. We are a safety net provider and for many of our patients, their only source of health care. Last year, 64% of our patients were living at or below 150% of the federal poverty level ($16,335 for one person); 40% were uninsured and had to pay out-of-pocket; and 91% were female. In 2011, teens made up 19% of our patient base and 74% were under the age of 30. Our patients spoke more than 15 languages. In 2011, PPNNE:1. Provided sexual health care and education to 44,349 patients.2. Delivered $10 million in free or subsidized health care to vulnerable populations.3. Provided 59,029 STI tests, 7,941 Pap tests, and 11,482 breast exams.4. Relocated and transformed 2 flagship facilities in Burlington, VT and Portland, ME as well as 1 medium-sized health center in Williston, VT to better meet the needs of our patients5. Centralized our call center, ensuring the maximum responsiveness to patients seeking our services.6. Implemented technological infrastructure region-wide to connect all sites and pave the way for a new Electronic Practice Management system and Electronic Medical Records in 2012.7. Hired a new Medical Director and laid the foundation for enhanced service delivery and expansion.

PPNNE is committed to ensuring young people have access to the education and information they need to make healthy choices. We believe teens must play an instrumental role in designing and implementing PPNNE's community education initiatives. We work to include young people in all stages of the development of our programs, including a new peer-to-peer education program launching in 2012.In 2011, PPNNE:1. Developed a program plan for launching a comprehensive peer-to-peer sex education program in 2012.2. Recruited a renowned sex educator to assist with the development of an interactive community of youth through social media and other outreach activities.3. Held 19 presentations and events in the community, reaching approximately 268 people.

PPNNE's Public Affairs and Grassroots staff are charged with protecting and promoting reproductive rights to ensure access to reproductive health care and sexuality education throughout northern New England. Supporting their work is a network of over 20,000 activists throughout Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont who help us face challenges unique to our political landscape. Across our region, we utilize staffing, volunteer, and advocacy strategies designed to optimize each state's strengths and overcome specific threats and challenges, including ensuring women's health care and family planning are included in the health care reform policies emerging in each of our states.Highlights from 2011 include:1. We defeated 5 anti-choice bills in Maine and worked with the Vermont legislature and governor to ensure reproductive health care and access to abortion were included in Vermont's single payer health bill.2. Our activists participated in a number of rallies and events across the region in support of Planned Parenthood, playing a critical role protecting women's health care access.

PPNNE continues to focus on online opportunities and social media to raise our visibility, and encourage people to become patients, activists, and supporters of PPNNE. We also utilize college campus representatives and our community engagement staff to expand visibility through intern programs, greeter programs, and tabling, etc. In 2011, we began implementation of PPNNE's new brand platform and health center revitalization effort which aim to engage our target audience of 15 to 29 year olds and help PPNNE prepare for an increase in demand and complexities of health care reform.
