At Planned Parenthood of Northern New England (PPNNE), our work is guided by our mission to provide, promote, and protect access to reproductive health care and sexuality education so that all people can make voluntary choices about their reproductive and sexual health. Women, men and teens across Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont rely on PPNNE as an affordable reproductive and sexual health care provider, educator, and steadfast advocate. In 2013, patients came to our 21 health centers across the region for annual gynecological exams, five types of cancer screening (cervical, breast, uterine, colorectal and ovarian), birth control education and contraceptives (including emergency contraception), sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing and treatment, confidential HIV testing and counseling, colposcopy (a follow-up procedure for abnormal Pap tests), abortion care, and HPV/Hepatitis immunizations.We are a safety-net provider and for many of our patients, their primary source of health care. Last year, 65% of our patients were living at or below 150% of the federal poverty level ($17,235 for one person); 43% were uninsured; and 23% were on Medicaid. Over 90% were female. In 2013, teens made up 16% of our patient base and 71% were under the age of 30. Especially at our busy urban sites, we are serving increasing numbers of New Americans; last year, our patients spoke more than 16 languages. In 2013, PPNNE:-Provided sexual health care and education to 42,649 patients through 65,096 visits.-Delivered over $9 million in free or discounted health care to vulnerable populations.-Provided vital services, such as 66,010 STI tests, 13,056 pregnancy tests, 5,223 Pap tests, and 8,440 breast exams.-Achieved excellent patient satisfaction ratings with 98% of those surveyed rating their experience as "exceptional" or "very good".-Implemented Electronic Health Records (EHR) at 4 health centers; Williston, Newport and St. Johnsbury, VT and Topsham, ME. Began preparations to launch EHR at 9 more sites in 2014.-Completed a successful telemedicine services pilot program in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom. While continuing our telemedicine program at Newport and St. Johnsbury, VT health centers, in 2013 we laid the groundwork for successfully launching telemedicine at our Hyde Park and St. Albans, VT sites in early 2014.

PPNNE is committed to ensuring young people have access to the education and information they need to make healthy choices. We believe teens must play an instrumental role in designing and implementing PPNNE's community education initiatives. As such, our growing Peer Education Program trains youth to serve as peer educators, delivering life-changing sexuality education in schools, community groups and through one-on-one interactions. Student participants receive 40-hours of Peer Educator training and continuous support from our Peer Education Coordinator.In 2013, PPNNE:-Expanded our peer education program in Chittenden County, VT, which serves students at the Burlington and South Burlington High Schools.-Laid the groundwork to begin a peer education program in Manchester, NH in 2014

Our public policy and grassroots organizing staff have been working hard in each state to promote and protect access to women's health care, the needs of uninsured and low income populations, and reproductive rights. Supporting their work is a network of over 20,000 activists throughout Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont who help us face challenges unique to our political landscape. Across our region, we utilize staffing, volunteer, and advocacy strategies designed to optimize each state's strengths and overcome specific threats and challenges, including protecting women's health care and family planning access in the evolving health care systems in each of our states. In 2013, PPNNE:-Continued a partnership with the State of Vermont to implement The Access Plan, a program that expands family planning Medicaid eligibility up to 200% of the federal poverty level (FPL). In 2013, PPNNE enrolled 5,300 patients in The Access Plan; since the program's inception in spring 2012, we have enrolled a total of more than 9,600 Vermonters.-Worked with New Hampshire state officials to expand Medicaid coverage for family planning services for patients up to 185% FPL, effective July 1, 2013. In the second half of 2013, PPNNE helped over 1,800 patients obtain coverage through this program - work that continues in 2014.-After facing 2011 New Hampshire defunding attacks head on, including securing public funding through direct contract with the federal government, in 2013 the Executive Council restored state funding to PPNNE through a unanimous vote.-Squashed multiple anti-choice, anti-family, planning bills across Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont.-Worked with Portland, ME City Council to pass an ordinance requiring protesters to observe a 35-foot buffer zone around the city's reproductive health center entrances and parking lots. This built upon our successful 2012 efforts to achieve a patient safety zone around our Burlington, VT health center.-Established PPNNE's role as a go-to organization for health insurance access and enrollment assistance with the new online Marketplaces by securing grants for Navigators and Marketplace Assistors. PPNNE health centers in VT and NH have trained staff dedicated to providing in-person assistance to individuals who would like help with selecting an affordable insurance plan and accessing subsidies and/or tax credits.

PPNNE continues to focus on online opportunities and social media to increase visability and encourage people to become patients, activists, and supporters. We also utilize student leaders at college chapters and our community engagement staff to expand visability through intern programs, greeter programs, community tabling, educational events, and other outreach. Additionally, last year PPNNE made extensive progress in growing our robust social media and youth engagement program. Our popular educational video series on YouTube, called A Naked Nation (ANN), has helped spur dramatic growth in our social media reach. In addition to our ANN YouTube channel, we utilize Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr to reach young people where they are. Over the course of 2013, the total number of people engaged through our social media program increased by 200%. A Naked Nation videos (available at www.youtube.com/anakednation) have received over 1.7 million views.
